They insisted that I take part in all of their adventures outdoors. Never did they say “We can’t go – we have a young child.” As far back as I can remember I was hiking, camping, flying or riding on Dad’s Harley.

When it came time to raise my own children I promptly dragged them outdoors to hike, camp and backpack. It was important to me that they grow up as I did. However, hiking with kids takes some planning.
